Hi, I’m Doug. I help aspiring sommeliers turn confusion into confidence using a structured, scientific approach to wine study.

The Science of the Sip

Before I was decoding wine regions, I was decoding compliance frameworks. My background is in Regulatory Science and Biochemistry. In that world, precision, systems, and structure aren’t just nice to have—they are required.

When I transitioned into wine, I noticed something immediately: wine education is often chaotic. It’s romantic and beautiful, but for a student trying to pass an exam, the sheer volume of information can be crushing.

I applied my scientific background to my WSET studies. Instead of rote memorization, I looked for patterns. I created systems. That approach helped me earn my WSET Level 3 with Merit and power through 5 of the 6 units for the WSET Diploma while balancing a career.

I built SommPrep to share that system. To give you the structure I wish I had from day one.
